And I’m working on it.

I have an innate desire to be famous. I don’t know why, I don’t think I’d be good at it. I don’t have the stamina, I’m a very sleepy girl we know this. So I can’t explain it but I just do want to be where the famous people are, not because I think they’re any better than the average person but because we can all agree I’d be hilarious as a famous person. I’m hoping this blog will be my ticket to fame. But what is it really that I want from fame? Not attention, well yes attention but more so, luxury.
I try to add a daily dose of luxury to my life, so I’ll be sharing how I do that in my blog. Every person I see on the internet talking about life’s little luxuries is trying to sell you something. It’s exhausting, to constantly have your time, attention, and money taken from you. But, life is exhausting enough so we’re going to work together to move past that. I hope to share in this blog things I’m trying to move away from that constant overconsumption to more things you can do for free or cheap that are luxurious. We are luxurious and broke and want to be mindful of how we spend our most valuable assets (attention and money).
Make a mug cake
Okay so it’s not Facebook videos in 2016 anymore, the absolute height of the mugcake, but that doesn’t mean we can’t eat cake. Marie Antoinette, my coquette queen, said “Let them eat cake!”. I imagine she giggled to herself afterward and had a slice as well. After all, she was just a teenage girl. I digress. Mug cakes. Get your prettiest mug and make your favorite cake flavor then sit down and enjoy it. Truly enjoy it. No screens no distractions no overstimulation, just stimulate(?).
After writing this I did indeed go and make a mug cake. I picked a lovely vintage Christmas mug and chose chocolate as my flavor of the day. I was even going to add some cherries on top before eating. All was going well until I opened my microwave to the following disgrace.
What the actual fuck. I was dancing around my kitchen like the luxurious little fairy I am and then I saw this. I thought it could be salvaged but it was simultaneously burnt and liquified. Sad. Moral of the story? Don’t throw in a dash of baking soda, measure according to the recipe. Hopefully, your mug cake turns out better.
Listen to Silk Chiffon by Muna
What is more luxurious than silk chiffon? Nothing! (Disclaimer: I do not know what silk chiffon is nor have I ever felt it.) Lucky for us, there is a beautiful song to grace our ears if we don’t have our silk chiffon readily available. I chose this song because of the luxurious title, gorgeous production, and banger lyrics that I will now point out for you. The refrain “Life’s so fun. Life’s so fun.” makes me stop and think, “Wow. Life really is so fun.” So thank you Muna for this gem.
If you want to be extra luxurious, listen to the live at Electric Lady Studios version.
Listen to World Burn by Reneé Rapp
Ok so yes this week it’s another song to be luxurious with but just trust me. There is something magical in this woman’s voice. This is the Reneé Rapp version of Mean Girls the Musical the Movie. If you don’t know who Reneé Rapp is you should. She won the Jimmy Awards (a big deal to theatre people) in high school and made her Broadway debut as Regina in Mean Girls at 19 which I was lucky enough to see. She’s then gone on to star in Sex Lives of College Girls, have a massive music career, and is now reprising her role of Regina in Mean Girls the Musical the Movie. She is a star. Anyways, her version of the iconic Regina song World Burn just dropped and it is godly. Definitely luxurious listening material.
Those are my three luxurious takes of the week. Remember, we don’t need to monetarily consume to be luxurious, we can do so in many different ways. And what I say is luxurious is not the end all be all. Luxury looks different to everyone, these are just my luxurious takes and ideas that I’ll be sharing, do them, think of your own, be inspired to be creative with your life and bring yourself joy.
